The U.S. Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration established the National Center of Excellence for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Safety in 2023. The Center facilitates research and development, training, and regulatory coordination between federal agencies, and will encourage the development of LNG safety solutions to real-world challenges through global and domestic collaboration among LNG stakeholders. The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration establishes national policy, sets and enforces standards, educates and conducts research to prevent incidents and protect people and the environment by advancing the safe transportation of energy and other hazardous materials that are essential to our daily lives.
